In 2017 the City and Dakota County completed a feasibility study for the reconstruction of the trail through Garlough and Marthaler Parks. The study explored upgrading this section of the River to River Regional Trail to regional trail standards. This study was funded by a SHIP (Statewide Health Improvement Partnership) grant. In 2020, the City and County again partnered to complete the final plans to reconstruct this important gap in the County Trail system. The project was bid in early 2021 and received favorable numbers. The City Council recently approved the project contract with Sunram Construction. The project is expected to start in early May and wrap up in the fall of 2021. During construction, sections of the trail and areas in both parks may be closed to public use. Bi-weekly construction updates will be posted on this page. This project is being funded by both Dakota County and West St Paul. Upon completion of this segment, along with the new underpass at Robert St., traveling the River to River Trail through West St Paul will be much improved.
