Meet WSP Lieutenant - Tim Sewald

I was born and raised in Eagan, Minnesota, and attended St. Joseph’s Catholic School from kindergarten through eighth grade. After my junior year of high school, I relocated to the Dallas, Texas area, where I began my career in law enforcement as a police officer. I later returned to Minnesota and have continued my law enforcement career here. Outside of work, I enjoy mountain biking, camping, and spending time with my family, including dining out together.

My decision to pursue a career in law enforcement was inspired by my father, who served as an Eagan police officer. I have a vivid memory of him coming home in uniform when I was about five years old, and from that point on, I knew I wanted to become a police officer.

Since joining the West St. Paul Police Department in 2008, I have served as a SWAT operator, use-of-force and firearms instructor, field training officer, and fitness specialist. Being heavily involved in officer training and development has been one of the most rewarding aspects of my career.

One of the most rewarding aspects of my current position is the ability to remain actively involved in many of the same assignments and responsibilities I held as a patrol officer and patrol sergeant, while also contributing at a broader organizational level.

This position has also allowed me the flexibility to attend community events such as Night to Unite, Coffee with a Cop, and Heroes and Helpers.

We know this video is old, but this blooper reel is one of the reasons we love Tim!
