Business Spotlight - Clothesline Laundromat

You may be familiar with this neighborhood staple in West St. Paul. Clothesline Laundromat is a self-service laundromat that makes convenience a priority. The owner, Britt, took over the property in 2018, fully remodeling the business with a clear goal in mind: “to provide a clean, safe place for customers to come and do their laundry.”

Clothesline accepts cash, credit and debit cards, as well as digital payments like Apple Pay and Google Pay. One thing that surprises many first-time visitors? Clothesline is coin-free. Customers can load cash or digital payments onto a reusable laundry card and receive a 10% bonus every time, turning $20 into $22 or $30 into $33. Those who prefer can also pay directly at each machine using a card or mobile wallet.

Inside, visitors can expect a bright, clean space and a few personal touches. Clothesline has washers and dryers of various sizes to accommodate different sizes of laundry loads. “I do most of the washer and dryer repairs myself, and I really like doing it,” Britt shared. Families may also notice a replenishing shelf of free children’s books, provided through The Free Book Buggie.

Giving back is a major point of pride. “I’m very proud to do an annual free laundry event and co-host a parking lot party with my neighbor business, El Destino, during Explore West St. Paul Days,” Britt shared. Sustainability is also important, with some of the laundromat’s electricity generated by solar panels on the roof.

Residents can take advantage of Wash Wednesday, which offers washer discounts every Wednesday, all year long. Clothesline also hosts Laundry Love, a monthly free laundry event held on the second Thursday of each month. The program began in 2025 through a partnership with the First Presbyterian Church of South St. Paul, Laundry Love (a national nonprofit), and Earth Breeze, which donates free detergent. Volunteers assist customers and help distribute supplies. The program is currently scheduled through summer 2026, with hopes to continue pending future funding. Clothesline Laundromat is open every day of the year from 6 a.m. to 11 p.m. Residents who still have old Clothesline tokens are welcome to bring them in. They can be exchanged for credit on a Clothesline laundry card.
