1. How do I get a police report and is there a cost?

Come up to the police station Monday – Friday between 8:00am to 4:30pm to request a copy of a police report.

2. Is there a cost for a police report?

There is no fee for copies of police reports unless they are over 3 pages or more in length. If three pages or more it’s .25 per page.

3. Once I request a copy of a police report, how long does it take to receive the report?

Generally it can take up to 10 days to receive a copy of a police report. Staff will do their best to provide you a copy of the report in less than 10 days.

4. Can a report be e-mailed to me?

No, you must come up in person to receive a copy of the police report. Some reports may require verification, so please bring your ID

5. How to do I get a copy of an accident report?

Same as getting a police report. Come up to the police station Monday-Friday 8:00am to 430pm to receive a copy of an accident report. Please bring ID to verification.

6. How can I safely dispose of old or expired medication?

There is a medication drop box here at city hall which you may drop unused/old medication. It is bright green and located in the entrance to city hall. Sharps or thermometers are not permitted.

7. Does the West St. Paul Police Department do fingerprinting?

We provide fingerprinting services for residents of West St. Paul. There is a fee of $17. Please bring your ID for verification of residency in West St. Paul.

8. How do I get a gun permit?

West St. Paul Police Department issues Permit to Purchase Handguns for residents of West St. Paul (you must provide identification that shows a West St. Paul address). You may stop in to get fill out an application here at the station Monday through Friday 8:00 a.m. – 4:30 p.m. The applications take one week to process. Residents are required to return to the station to pick up their permits after one week’s time.

You may call the police department at 651-552-4200 and the records staff can direct you to the officer or investigator that has been assigned to your case.

10. Who do I contact if my car was towed or impounded?

Cars that have been impounded or towed from West St. Paul are done so by Absolute Towing and Recovery. Their phone number is 651-337-2149. You may call them to get costs and directions to their location.

11. How much should a tow cost?

A standard tow should generally cost $125 + $12 City Admin Fee + Storage Fee (see below)

Storage: First 24 hours lot fee $20 | Day 2 thru day 5 = $25/day | Day 6+ = $40/day

Admin fee from budget for vehicles stored two or more days = $25

No other charges (other than tax) should be charged, like street cleaning.

12. Who do I contact if I need to get my pet licensed in West St. Paul?

Animal licenses can be obtained at City Hall Monday through Friday 8:00am – 4:30pm.

13. How do I retrieve my property that was confiscated?

Please call the office 651-552-4200 before coming to the police department to retrieve property. The office staff can assist you with this question or direct you to an officer that can answer your questions.
